Making smart use of management time is critical. Tying management up with irrelevant or unimportant issues and risks is not smart.

What is smart is the ability to quickly prioritise contract risks that most need management attention. Being able to filter out those contracts at risk and do something about them is the way to go – cut through the noise and focus in on what are often the silent killer issues.

Spend time monitoring the exceptions by:

  • Putting rules and processes in place to escalate contract-level risk to the contract manager level.
  • Red-flag the priority contract and supplier issues or risk
  • Give immediate priority and visibility to important issues, with requests for action and accountabilities assigned
